"Hi Beth, Checked out your new site and it's great. Noted that you have many African-American marriages on the list with the ceremony performed by "A. BRIGA, Jr." The name is actually BINGA. Rev. BINGA was the pastor of First Baptist Church Southside. This is the oldest African American church in VA, having been founded in the early 1800s. It is currently located at 15th and Decatur Sts. in south Richmond. Rev. BINGA performed the marriage ceremony of my great-grandparents, Lelia G. TURNER and Robert GOLDEN in 1892. Her father, John Allen TURNER, was a trustee of First Baptist. Rev. BINGA and his wife are buried in Mt. Olivet (Maury) Cemetery in South Richmond. Just a little more Manchester history. Keep up the good work."
